Literary Mixtape Vol. 14

Side A:

Side B:

April 28, 2024

Running a little behind schedule this week, so not much of an editor's letter. Sorry folks!

Over the neon wash and low din of a bar,"Piano Man" reminisces on the grand ambitions of a boisterous old friend—and laments whether dreams and daring could have saved him from an unnamed fate.

"The Dress Looks Nice on You" oscillates between a geography expedition and a record store, between awkward silences and breathless confessions of an out of reach love interest held up on a pedestal.

Between the dying gasps of an adolescent love and the triumphant swell of an orchestra, "Symphony No. 8 in E-Flat Major" contrasts musicians playing in harmony, as one, as the narrator and his love fracture slowly into two in the same instant.

"Walk, Don't Run" is a tight little poem flinching at slippery pool deck hijinks.

Framed in stolen moments, "Life Is" catalogues the gorgeous ache of two lovers grasping at a relationship on uncertain ground, from bars to bedsheets, from moving vans to murmured promises.

"How to Disappear Completely" takes us on a slow car ride through the back roads and an excursion through abandoned fields, pressing forward against the dark into an unknown beyond.

Thanks for being here, as ever. Hope you enjoy this week's issue.

xo,

Kirsti
