"In Praise of the Non-Linear" • Tyler Dempsey for trampset
Friday Fav:
"Paradise Again" • Swedish House Mafia - Truth be told, I have probably dropped the needle on this album more than any other in the last few years. I have a lot of fucking feelings about Swedish House Mafia that I'll probably dump into a Substack post one day soon, but for now, know that Paradise Again is kind of a miracle of an album. This is a supergroup that dropped exactly six songs, including the biggest song of a generation, then walked away from the spotlight at the height of their fame. They returned ten years later to make an actual debut album — this one — based very loosely on Dante's Divine Comedy, flippantly messing with form and genre while pushing the boundaries of EDM — the subgenre they largely created — forward. If you don't have an ear for EDM, know that there's a lot of depth and versatility to Paradise Again. It's a feat, and SHM is extremely punk rock. Give it a spin.

Friday Five exists as a little challenge to me: five new albums, five new stories per week. They're here for you to enjoy (or not!) No summaries or in-depth criticism. But here are a few notes:
Perhaps because I am a bit behind due to life stuff and AWP, this is the first "greatest hits" Friday mixtape, so what you're finding here is my favs of all the mixtapes I've done. The albums are ones I return to frequently, and the stories are ones which still have a grip on me.
Watching Anora, Seven Psychopaths, Practical Magic, The Craft, Risky Business, Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie, A Complete Unknown. Anora is one of my favourite movies in recent memory. Nirvanna was a perfect Canadian indie film, ton of fun to watch. Finished Industry which is one of the most compelling shows on tv right now, though be warned it's one of the more stressful watches you'll undertake. Reading Olga Ravn's "My Work" and books about spellwork.
