Friday Fav:

Feeling hopeful, belting and dancing to this one in the shower. Bouncy tune, true-story video for anyone fumbling toward the other side of bad luck, heartbreak, or self-sabotage.

Dec 5, 2025

I'm getting ahead of my resolutions.

Lately I've set myself a little goal: listen to albums I've never heard, and read stories I've never read every week. I've been frustrated with myself for getting in musical and literary ruts, always returning to the same material. This habit is both good and bad in equal measure; sometimes we rely on familiar art as a comfort, something to ground us (or lift us!) during hard times. Sometimes we rely on it to the exclusion of new (to-us) art, things that could become favourites.

It's a bit morbid, really. One day we're all gonna die. There's simply too much ground to cover—more than you could possibly know, or take in, or appreciate. But that doesn't mean we can't expand our horizons a bit, and share what we find.

I don't plan on offering criticism or summaries of the Friday Fives for a couple reasons. One, I don't have the time or wherewithal to offer thoughtful criticism on a weekly basis. Not for lack of wanting to, but I have two jobs, freelance contracts, writing, and life to contend with. Two, because my opinion is just one, and I don't claim to be a tastemaker (my tastes are often cringe! I'm a huge EDM fan!) Three, my only intention is to share what I've found so that you can decide for yourself. Best case, you'll have found a future favourite. Worst case, you'll have heard or read something new, even if it's not for you. (It's not all for me, either.)

I might occasionally offer up some of my evergreen favs, if only to share what I love deeply. But for the most part, all the material from the Friday Fives is new-to-me. We'll see what sticks, and what doesn't.

Consider this a record. Or an experiment. Or an exploration. Whatever it is, I'll continue with it as long as I find it fun to do. Hope you have a little fun with it, too.

xo,

Kirsti
